Mid Century Italian Cocktail Cabinet by Paulo Buffa

Mid Century Italian Cocktail Cabinet by Paulo Buffa

This is a lovely, well-made cabinet in burr walnut from the early fifties. This was made when the fashion for cocktail bars was at its height in Italy and is made using the lastest carpentry technique of the period.  Many designers were using steam-bent veneer panels for furniture designs. This has all the hall-marks and skills of furniture made at  La Permanente factory in Cantu. Italy Paulo Buffa was known to have used this design for the legs, being one continuous piece of steam-bent walnut veneered ply.  The cabinet still has the original crystal glass handles, mirrored interior and record deck .( not tested) The veneer is in an excellent condition for its age. A very neat and well proportioned piece of furniture that has a nod to the art deco period, but with its simple lines would also look at home in more modern setting.
