La Permanente

1950's Dressing Table

1950's Dressing Table

This is a bespoke piece of furniture made by the artisans of La Permanente company in Cantu'. It bears all the hall-marks of the designs by Paulo Buffa.  For example. the little brass feet on the legs, the use of the shell motif in solid brass of the drawer handles, the use of cherry wood veneers, that are beautifully aligned on the drawer fronts and the hand-carved flourishing scrolls of the design.  There is documentary evidence of these type of scroll in detailed bespoke pieces of furniture being made during the 40's and 50's by the La Permanente workshops. Craftmanship of this nature cannot be mass produced or machine made. This is a rare and beautifully crafted piece of Mid-century furniture.
